First United Methodist Church was first organized in 1855, just one year before the town of Stephenville was founded. That year there were ten charter members that made up the congregation. In 1917, the present Beaux Arts-style building replaced an earlier sanctuary that was only about twenty-five years old at the time. Since that time, FUMC has grown into what it is today.
At First United Methodist Church, we believe that Jesus Christ is God's son, that he came to earth as a baby, died on the cross for our sins and was raised to life so that death and sin could be defeated once and for all.
